North Vancouver’s Maplewood Flats Conservation Area is the latest outdoor site to put up visitor restrictions in the COVID-19 era.
The gates to the main parking lot will now be closed on weekends to discourage too many people from congregating.
“We are balancing site access with the health and safety of the public and wildlife. All trail users must agree to these guidelines to protect people’s health, especially the most vulnerable in our community,” a message from Lianne Payne, executive director of the Wild Bird Trust, stated.
Additionally, the Wild Bird Trust is asking visitors who do show up to observe some new rules, including no jogging, no stopping on the bridge and mandatory clockwise travel through the trail loop to ensure one-way travel.
They are also asking people to keep off the beaches and mudflats, keep dogs leashed and not take them beyond the bridge and stay off the benches.
