ICBC’s head office in North Vancouver was the subject of a bomb threat Tuesday afternoon.

Someone called the office and made the threat around 4 p.m., just as employees were going home for the day, according to Sgt. Peter DeVries, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.

“We ... sent our police dog in to search,” DeVries said. “There is no threat to public safety. We determined it was a hoax. We did a search and made sure the building was safe before we let everyone back in. We took the appropriate precautions.”

DeVries could not say whether the caller gave an ultimatum or just wanted to make trouble. Police did trace the phone number and found the call came from Europe.

The whole process took more than two hours.

ICBC issued a statement on Wednesday.

“Yesterday afternoon, we were alerted to a possible safety concern. Our corporate security team worked with the RCMP as they conducted their investigation, which determined that there was no risk to our employees or property,” it read. “ICBC is committed to the safety and security of our employees and customers.”
