A 10-year-old girl was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a bear bit her leg while she was out walking with her family at Rice Lake yesterday.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m., according to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.

The girl and her family were walking the loop of the popular North Vancouver trail when they encountered the bear and the girl was bitten.

A bystander helped scare the bear away and the girl was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

No one else was injured, according to the COS.

The park was closed to the public yesterday as the COS’s predator attack team was deployed to the area to search for the bear.

The park is still closed to the public as conservation officers continue their investigation into finding the bear.

An update is expected later today.
