New West newcomer finds “Jabba the slug” (and friends)

Snapped in New West

It would seem that New West would definitely come out the winner in a slugfest with Saskatchewan.

Dann McKenzie, who recently moved to New West from Saskatchewan, is impressed with the quality of slugs in the city. It was on a local trial where he spotted this Leopard slug and experienced "ahh-don’t-accidently-squish-the-giant-slugs-that-are-everywhere" anxiety for the first time.

While it may not have been the welcome to New West he wanted, McKenzie is taking it in stride.

“I’ve been into insect macro photography for 15 years or so, but this is the first time I've turned my lens towards a slug. Impressive, slimy beasts you have around here...and in such abundance!” he said in an email to the Record. “I just moved here from Saskatchewan where the slugs wouldn't constitute a Flintstones-vitamin for one of New West's mucousey predators.”
