CF Montreal loans defender Robert Thorkelsson to second-division Norwegian club

MONTREAL — CF Montreal loaned defender Robert Thorkelsson to second-division Norwegian club Kongsvinger IL Toppfotball on Thursday. Thorkelsson's loan goes until Aug. 1. The Norwegian side has the option to acquire him on a permanent transfer.

MONTREAL — CF Montreal loaned defender Robert Thorkelsson to second-division Norwegian club Kongsvinger IL Toppfotball on Thursday.

Thorkelsson's loan goes until Aug. 1. The Norwegian side has the option to acquire him on a permanent transfer.

A 22-year-old from Iceland, Throkelsson has played 20 games for Montreal since arriving at the club in June 2021.

He had not yet featured in a match this season.

Earlier Thursday, Montreal acquired US$150,000 in 2024 general allocation money from Inter Miami CF in exchange for a 2024 international roster slot.

Montreal has a 2-2-1 record to start the Major League Soccer season. Laurent Courtois's side visits the Seattle Sounders on Saturday to wrap up a season-opening six-game road trip.
