Four local swimmers and their coach, Judy Baker, will represent the Winskill Dolphins at the upcoming Canadian Olympic Trials May 13 to 19 in Toronto.

Recently the Winskill Dolphins Swim Club had a successful run at both provincials and Western Canadian Championships where they once again punched above their weight in team standings. The swimmers swam many best times, won multiple medals, and set several club, provincial and meet records.

Kelly Qi, Naomi Mynott plus brother and sister Zach and Abby McLeod all rank among the top swimmers for their age in the country and will be competing to achieve personals bests and potentially earn a spot on the National Development team and/or on the Junior National team set to represent Canada in several international competitions later this year.

At Olympic Trials, the four junior swimmers from Winskill will face the best senior swimmers in the country, many of whom will be vying for a spot on the team that will represent Canada in Paris at the 2024 Olympic Games. They include Olympic gold medalist and current world record holder Summer MacIntosh; gold medalist Maggie MacNeil; Canada’s most decorated Olympian Penny Oleksiak; and Olympic medalist Josh Liendo.

“Earning the opportunity to compete at this level is a great accomplishment for these swimmers and is a result of their hard work and dedication in the pool,” said Baker.
