West Vancouver teenager Mollie Jepsen became the first Canadian to claim a medal at the 2018 Paralympics, winning bronze in women’s standing downhill Saturday in South Korea.

The 18-year-old, who graduated from West Vancouver Secondary last June, clocked a time of one minute 34.60 seconds to finish behind Marie Bochet of France (1:30.30) and Andrea Rothfuus of Germany (1:32.53) at Jeongseon Alpine Centre.

“it was pretty awesome,” Jepsen told CBC after the race. “I was definitely a little nervous. I didn’t put my best skiing together in the top section but it was good enough to be up there. I was pretty happy, pretty stoked.”

Jepsen took a gruelling route to the Games, battling two blown ACLs and a broken ankle in the last five years. Click here to read more about her amazing path to the Paralympics.
