The North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association Midget A-3 hockey team scored a big win at the massive Presidents Day Tournament held recently in Phoenix, Ariz.

North Van went 5-0 in the tournament, outscoring their opponents 25-1 and topping the event off by beating Idaho Falls 1-0 in the championship final. Center Devan Lindberg scored early in the first period for the only goal of the game.

Other wins in the tournament came against the California Gold Rush, Arizona Hockey Union Black Knights, Capistrano Coyotes (from the Anaheim Mighty Ducks High School Hockey League), and California Wave.

“To win five in a row at the tournament was remarkable feat for us,” stated coach Perry Turcotte in a note to the North Shore News. “Most of our players had never experienced going to a tournament semi-final, let alone win gold. This is a true Cinderella story and a fantastic accomplishment for a group of North Van boys. This win was a total collaboration by all of our players and everyone involved with the team. It took everyone on this team to win gold.”
