Jonathan Hannah of North Vancouver’s Griffins Boxing picked up a bronze medal in the 69-kilogram youth division at the 2018 Canadian Championships held recently in Edmonton.
Hannah, who earned his way to nationals by winning the provincial championship tournament in February, didn’t have to record a win to get onto the podium at nationals. An opening round bye put him into the semifinals where he lost a tough 2-1 decision against fellow B.C. fighter Nick Young.
Griffins head coach Dave Brett attended nationals as a coach for the provincial team, helping the B.C. squad come away with four golds, three silvers and eight bronze medals at the Canadian championships.
“All of the athletes fought hard, and represented the Province of British Columbia well,” stated Brett in a release. “I am very proud of Jonathan and proud to be a coach on this team.”
