North Vancouver’s Shane Firus and his skating partner Carolane Soucisse of Chateauguay, Que., smashed their personal best score on their way to winning silver in ice dancing Thursday at the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Taipei City, Taiwan.
The pair scored 164.96 points in the event, beating their previous record of 154.60 set in October. Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker of the United States won gold with 174.29 points while Kana Muramoto and Chris Reed of Japan finished third at 163.86.
“We’re pretty ecstatic,” Firus said in a Skate Canada release. “The goal coming in was a medal and we accomplished that. We’re psyched and super pumped right now.”
Shane Firus, 23, is the younger brother of Canadian singles skater Liam Firus, who finished seventh at the 2018 National Skating Championships held earlier this month at the University of British Columbia. At the national championships Shane Firus and Soucisse finished fourth in ice dance.
