The Collingwood Cavaliers continued their dominance of the North Shore AA field hockey league, winning their 10th straight title with a 3-0 win over Windsor Monday night.
The Cavs got a first half goal from Grade 9 player Elizabeth Mathisen while Grade 12 Kelsie Stephenson added a pair in the second half to put the game away.
“The game showed a lot of grit and talent from both sides,” said Ashleigh Gold, Collingwood co-coach along with Catherine Underwood and Sara Bruner. “We are very excited to bring our young team to provincials this year.”
Collingwood’s roster includes 11 players who are new to the senior level with four Grade 12s – Stephenson, Jaimie Chrystal, Megan Mauro, and Chloe Szybunka – providing the veteran leadership. According to the coaching staff, the Cavaliers are riding high after completing an undefeated season in North Shore AA league play as well as scoring a recent 3-0 win over AAA Argyle in an exhibition match.
They’ll go for provincial gold at the AA championships scheduled for Nov. 8-10 in Surrey, hosted by Tamanawis Secondary.
As for Windsor, they’ll take part in a mini tournament this Friday at Tamanawis, with four teams battling for one provincial berth.
“We have a relatively young team who are determined to fight for their chance at winning provincials and are quite capable,” said coach Brooke Sihota.
