It’ll be an all-North Shore battle in the Crehan Cup final Saturday as Argyle and Carson play for the Lower Mainland senior girls AAA basketball title.
Both teams earned their spots in the final, as well as automatic berths into the provincial AAA championships, by winning their semifinal matchups Thursday night at Carson Graham.
The Argyle Pipers got the party started with a 69-41 win over New West in the first semifinal. It was a balanced attack for the Pipers as four players hit double digits in scoring, led by SFU-bound guard Georgia Swant with 19. Kayla Escat scored 14, Chloe Walton 13 and Camie Ward 10 to push the Pipers through to the final. Swant currently leads the tournament with a scoring average of 22 points per game.
In the second semifinal the host Eagles knocked off Richmond’s McMath Secondary 59-51. Tanis Metcalfe led the way for Carson Graham with 18 points while Chloe Brebner scored 14 and Alex Walker 10.
The Pipers and Eagles will now meet in a championship match for the second time in less than two weeks. On Feb. 7 Argyle scored a tight 70-64 win to claim the North Shore AAA title. The Crehan Cup final will be played Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Carson Graham.
Handsworth is also hitting the court in the Crehan Cup, posting a 3-1 record so far. They’ll take on McMath at home on Friday night in an 8:15 p.m. game. The winner will advance to the third/fourth game Saturday to play for one more automatic berth into the provincial championships. For updated scores and schedules visit the Crehan Cup website.
