Friday, Oct. 21

SPOOKY CUPCAKES

School-aged kids out for Pro-D Day can head over to Mackin House Museum (1116 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) to decorate Halloween cupcakes. The cost is $5 per child; the event is open to children ages six and up, and it runs from noon to 1 p.m. or 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Registration is required.

TO THE CIRCUS

The Big Top is up near Coquitlam Centre mall (2929 Barnet Hwy., Coquitlam). Check out American Crown Circus’ Circo Osorio as the acrobatic and high-flying performers display their skills on a Canadian tour. The shows run today at 5 and 7 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 3, 5 and 7 p.m.

HORROR SHOW

If you’re looking for a fright before Halloween, visit Vancouver Horror Nights at Coquitlam Centre (2929 Barnet Hwy., Coquitlam) where the Giggle Dam’s Mark Friebe and his crew have a giant nightmare attraction in the former Sears store. The event, which includes a maze, escape rooms and midway games, is on until Nov. 5.

CUT LOOSE!

Stage 43 wraps up its first show of the season at Coquitlam’s Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way) tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. Footloose, based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford, follows the story of Ren and his mother who move from Chicago to a small farming town.

GARAGE SALE

Students and staff at Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School (1335 Dominion Ave., Port Coquitlam) host their annual indoor garage sale and silent auction, a fundraiser that includes household items, tools, books, toys, clothing and sporting goods. The event runs today from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

CALLING VOLUNTEERS

Do you have spare time on your hands? Find out how you can help your community at a Volunteer Job Fair, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the City Centre branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (1169 Pinetree Way). The fair is hosted by the library and Community Volunteer Connections. No registration is required.

HARVEST FEST

Bring the family to the harvest festival hosted by the Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association (BIA). From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., enjoy the live music, photos with Butter Studios and children’s entertainment. The event at Leigh Square (next to PoCo city hall) is free.

Canadian icon Gordon Lightfoot is on his 50 Years on the Carefree Highway Tour and stopping in Coquitlam to play at The Show Theatre at Hard Rock Casino Vancouver (2080 United Blvd.) at 8 p.m. The Grammy-nominated singer–songwriter’s catalogue includes the songs “If You Could Read My Mind,” “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald” and “Early Morning Rain.”

Welcome back the salmon to our rivers and streams at the annual Salmon Come Home festival, hosted by the Hoy/Scott Creek Watershed Society.
