BUYING cellphones while allegedly using phony identification landed a 38-year-old woman in police custody last week.

A New Westminster resident, who was on parole, walked into a cellphone store on Kingsway Avenue in Burnaby while under West Vancouver police surveillance. After the woman allegedly produced a false interim driver's licence, police officers swooped in and arrested the woman. The alleged fraudster had her parole revoked and was returned to a correctional institution.

Besides the interim driver's licence, the woman was also allegedly carrying a Social Insurance Number card and a Certificate of Indian Status, both of which were in someone else's name.

West Vancouver police plan to recommend charges of uttering a forged document and fraud against the woman.
