MOTORISTS looking to take a left off Marine Drive onto 14th or 16th streets during afternoon rush hour will need to find alternate routes beginning March 4. from Marine Drive onto the two thoroughfares between four and six p.m. on weekdays in a bid to ease westbound traffic congestion on Marine Drive.
"Detailed analysis of traffic patterns indicates that restricting left turns may help improve traffic flow," said district transportation engineer Norm Wong in a release from the district.
The district is planning to install new traffic signs at Marine Drive and 14th and 16th streets this weekend.
The left turn prohibition is a response to the recent analysis of a district-commissioned consultant who highlighted the two intersections as contributing to gridlock.
