WV hosts longboarding meet

THE District of West Vancouver, its police and schools are all hoping to reduce longboarder injuries with a public safety meeting next week.

Riders, parents and community members are invited to a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 at Kay Meek Centre, 1700 Mathers Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m.

Serious crashes on West Vancouver's roads - where the sport is illegal - resulted in four longboarders being taken to the emergency room in May and June with severe injuries.

Representatives from the West Vancouver Police Department, municipality, schools, the longboarding industry, sport advocates, and non-profit stakeholders will make presentations.

"To me, the end goal is to reduce the potential for more injuries like the terrible ones we've seen so far," said Jeff McDonald, West Vancouver spokesman.

There will be opportunities to ask questions. Space is limited to 200 attendees for the event so pre-registration is recommended online at sd45.bc.ca/news/reg-lb-wv.php.
