A sleepy North Vancouver neighbourhood was thrown into tumult Tuesday evening when police descended on the area in force to search for a would-be burglar.

Half a dozen police cruisers, a dog team and an RCMP helicopter rushed to the top of Riverside Drive at about 9 p.m. after someone reported seeing a man trying to climb into a home through a window. The witness apparently frightened the intruder, who fled the property.

North Vancouver RCMP scoured the neighbourhood by foot and called in the regional Air One police helicopter to help, but were unable to locate the suspect. Investigators believe he may have left the area in a vehicle.

No description was provided.
