Whistler's in store for another heavy snow day

Environment Canada issues snowfall alert for Whistler and Sea to Sky highway

Whistler and the Sea to Sky highway could see up to 25 centimetres of snow by Saturday afternoon, says Environment Canada.

Conditions on Saturday are looking prime after Environment Canada issued a snowfall alert for Whistler late Friday morning, Dec. 9, predicting between 15 and 25 centimetres to fall over the resort by Saturday afternoon.

The weather agency says a strong frontal system will carry that precipitation across the Sea to Sky corridor and into Whistler. Heavy snow began early Friday evening and continued overnight, and is expected to fall throughout most of Saturday. The heavy snow should ease up by late Saturday afternoon "as the low pressure system weakens."

The downside? That snowstorm might make the trip up or down Highway 99 a little more treacherous than usual.

Environment Canada warns motorists to prepare to adjust their driving as road conditions and visibility change.
