Seniors Peer Support: Caring volunteers ages 55+ are needed to assist other seniors to help maintain their independence and to access resources in the community. Once a sufficient number of volunteers have registered, they will receive training by Seniors Peer Counselling B.C. The class is hoped to start by early October. Attention Men: Seniors Acting Up, a cabaret group that performs at senior facilities twice a month, is looking for new members. They rehearse Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Silver Harbour Centre, 144 East 22nd St., North Vancouver. Fee: $18 per season. Info: Joan, 604-325-1857.

Silver Harbour Shorts Join Movies at the Meek: Films created by members of the digital storytelling group at Silver Harbour Seniors' Activity Centre will be featured during the Movies at the Meek series at Kay Meek Centre, 1700 Mathers Ave., West Vancouver. Scam Lecture: Everyone is welcome to a free information seminar about the most common scams being successfully used against seniors and how to protect oneself, Wednesday, Oct. 3, 24 p.m. at the West Vancouver Seniors' Activity Centre, 695 21st St. Speakers will include the West Vancouver police, a representative from the Better Business Bureau and Victim Services. Rice Bowls, Broken Bottles and a Bathhouse in the Woods: The Elders Council for Parks in British Columbia will host a free presentation with archeology Prof. Bob Muckle Thursday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Heritage Centre, 1620 Mount Seymour Rd., North Vancouver. Muckle will talk about his research that has focused on excavating previously unknown Japanese logging camps dating to approximately 1920 in the Seymour Valley.
