The District of West Vancouver has closed both the Seawalk and Ambleside Park this morning (Jan. 7) due to flooding and dangerous conditions caused by high tides and strong winds.

A note from the district indicated that the affected portion of the Seawalk extends west to Dundarave at 25th Street.

“Please avoid these areas and obey closure signage,” the district warned. “Strong winds and high tide are creating unsafe conditions on the waterfront.”

Staff are monitoring the conditions and will post updates on the district website and Twitter.

This morning Environment Canada issued a warning for Metro Vancouver of an intense low-pressure system. Most of Metro Vancouver will see winds of 50 km/h gusting to 70. Areas closer to the coast will see stronger winds of 70 km/h gusting to 90. The strong winds will begin to ease through the afternoon.
