ACCURATE financial reporting has paid off for the District of West Vancouver.
The municipality has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for its 2010 annual report.
The award is given out each year by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), an organization which promotes the professional management of governments by identifying and developing financial policies.
"The district is committed to transparent, in-depth financial reporting and this award recognizes that commitment," said Mayor Michael Smith in a press release.
The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting was created in 1986 to encourage local governments to exceed the minimum requirements for accepted accounting principles and practices.
West Vancouver was the only municipality from the North Shore to win the award. It has received the award each year since 2005.
The district also received the Budget Presentation Award for its 2011 Five Year Financial Plan Budget Book.
