Fairways could be shortened to make way for a driving range at Gleaneagles Golf Course in West Vancouver.

Fore!

After six weeks in the rough, the District of West Vancouver says it’s time to get back on the fairway.

With the blessing of public health authorities, the district will reopen Gleneagles Golf Course on Saturday. The district shut the public course down on March 15 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But when it reopens, the Gleneagles will have some new rules to follow, chief among them: maintain two metres of physical distancing from other players and stay home if you have any symptoms.

To reduce risk of spreading the virus, sand trap rakes have been removed and golfers will have to do without the satisfying rattle of a ball coming to rest in the hole because touching the flag pins is now banned. Golfers will also have to wash their balls at home.

Guests are asked to arrive no more than 10 minutes before their schedule tee time and maintain their pace of play. Tee times have been spaced out to every 12 minutes. Payment will be credit card only (tap preferred).

Visitors are also expect to pack their own snacks and refreshments in and their own garbage back out.
