West Vancouver has won the dubious distinction of being the second most adulterous community in the Lower Mainland, according to a dating website that specializes in infidelity.
AshleyMadison.com, a controversial service that helps connect individuals looking to cheat on their spouses, released its ranking of Vancouver-area neighbourhoods Wednesday. Based on data from registered users, the company has concluded that West Vancouver ranks second behind Kitsilano in terms of per-capita membership. Shaughnessy, Burnaby, Yaletown, downtown Vancouver, Surrey, Richmond, New Westminster and MacKenzie Heights round out the top 10. Approximately 70,000 members were included in the sample.
Vancouver, like other big cities, who you are is strongly related to where
you live, said site founder Noel Biderman in a release. Each neighbourhood has a personality and the people who live there tend to identify strongly with that. The question everyone is asking is: Does the community impact the people within it, or are certain personality types drawn to those areas?
The website, launched in 2002, claims 13 million members worldwide in 22 countries. Some 1.2 million of those live in Canada.
