SOON those looking for up-to-the-moment news on accidents, neighbourhood break-ins or foiled robbery attempts in West Vancouver will be able to say a little birdy told them.
A little blue birdy to be precise.
The West Vancouver Police Department is expanding its public reach by signing up for a presence on the social media site Twitter.
Const. Jeff Palmer, spokesman for the police department, said the social media site being launched this month is just another way to get information to the public - whether that's an alert about traffic snarls or a link to a public service announcement. It won't replace traditional channels like Block Watch, he said - just augment them.
Look for the West Vancouver police under the handle @ westvanpolice. The North Vancouver RCMP - like many other police forces - already has a Twitter presence online, under the handle @nvanrcmp.
