A 51 year-old Surrey man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he reportedly punched out the passenger window of a car in an incident of apparent road rage.
The drama started around 5: 30 p.m. when a West Vancouver woman driving a Honda Odyssey in the parking lot of the Park Royal shopping centre honked her horn to warn another driver who was backing up that she was behind him.
The Surrey man, who was on foot nearby, thought she was honking at him and took offence, according to investigators.
He swore at the driver and punched and shattered the front passenger window, said police.
The man took off, but later returned to the scene and was arrested. Police are recommending charges of assault and mischief.
The Park Royal incident is just the latest road rage episode to hit the North Shore in recent months.
In August last year, 44 year old Kam Aeinparast was rushed to hospital after he was punched and then rammed and pinned with a truck while pulled over near Taylor Way and Marine Drive.
In an unrelated case, two men were charged criminally and hit with a civil lawsuit after they allegedly beat North Vancouver tow truck driver Ryan McCaffery with an aluminum baseball bat at the side of The Cut in January last year.
In November 2010, a 21 year-old North Vancouver man suffered brain injuries after being savagely beaten on a Lower Lonsdale crosswalk.
The man had yelled at a passing driver for almost running him down while he crossed the street.
