The weekend cloud and precipitation is about to end, and a return to summer is forecast for Metro Vancouver.
Catherine Aubry, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, expects this weekend's rain and cloud to clear up by the middle of the week and above average temperatures by next weekend.
"It's going to feel like summer again," she tells V.I.A.
The instability over Metro Vancouver will fade over the next few days, she explains, with light, sporadic showers across the region for the rest of Sunday, Aug. 17, through to Tuesday, Aug. 19.
"We currently have an upper trough near the coast," she says. "That's why we have a pretty unstable pattern."
Highs of 23 or 24 C are expected throughout Metro Vancouver over the next few days, Aubry adds, which is essentially the normal for this time of year.
There'll be a 30 per cent chance of showers Monday, with areas near the mountains more likely to see showers than southern areas. Tuesday the likelihood of showers will decrease.
"It's unstable, so it's going to be difficult to determine," Aubry adds.
Wednesday, Aug. 20, is when things are expected to shift.
"Starting Wednesday, we'll have a ridge that's going to build over us," says Aubry.
On the 20th, that'll clear the skies, with clouds in the morning leaving the region and a blue sky later in the day. However, temperatures aren't expected to climb until the next day, Thursday, Aug. 21.
Areas near the ocean and river are expected to remain around 23 C, but inland temperatures are predicted to rise to the mid or even high-20s.
That trend is forecast to continue into and through the weekend, as temperatures will rise above the normal highs, Aubry says. Highs in the city are expected to hit the upper 20s, she adds, with the Fraser Valley likely to crack 30 C.
