The Canadian Iranian Foundation is getting set to hold two events later this month.
The Spring and Norouz Festival and Norouz Gala Celebration will celebrate and honour Iranian arts and culture.
"The whole idea is to get people together to welcome spring and celebrate Iranian New Year," said Nassreen Filsoof, event organizer.
Norouz marks the beginning of the Iranian New Year and is held on March 20, the first day of spring. The Spring and Norouz Festival will be held on March 11 at the Mickey MacDougall gymnasium in North Vancouver. The event will include traditional Iranian food, live music, performances and a playground for children. Admission to the event is $1 with all admission proceeds going to a local food bank. The Norouz Gala Celebration will feature live music and a performance by the Pars National Ballet. Los Angeles comedian Kvon will also be in attendance.
"The gala is a five-star dinner and dance event," said Filsoof. "There will be lots of entertainment and an auction."
Tickets are $125 with proceeds going to the Canadian Iranian Foundation's post-secondary scholarship fund. CIF has awarded more than $60,000 to more than 40 students within the last seven years. The gala will be held on March 24 at the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in downtown Vancouver. For more information on both events visit the website at www.cif-bc.com.
