North Shore residents who need assistance voting in the transit plebiscite can find help close to home.

Elections BC announced Monday it has opened nine plebiscite service offices in shopping centres across Metro Vancouver, including Capilano Mall.

Here, voters who need help in person or who may have challenges receiving mail can register to vote, update their voter registration and receive information on voting in the plebiscite.

They can also ask for a voting package until May 15, and drop off their completed ballot package before voting closes at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29.

The office is open during mall hours, except for Sundays and holidays.

Voters are being asked if they support a new 0.5 per cent increase to the provincial sales tax to be dedicated to the Mayors’ Transportation and Transit Plan.

The plan is a $7.5-billion list of capital projects for transportation improvements around the Lower Mainland. It would mean increased SeaBus service, B-line buses between Lynn Valley and downtown Vancouver, Capilano University and Metrotown, and Phibbs Exchange and Dundarave, and a 30 per cent boost in regular bus services across the North Shore.

According to Elections BC, 8 per cent of registered voters, or 124,927 people, in Metro Vancouver had returned their ballot packages as of April 8. Interim results are not yet available for the North Shore municipalities.
