A busy week for protests in Burnaby to stop the Trans Mountain pipeline continues today (Friday) with a major intersection targeted.

Climate Convergence Metro Vancouver is planning on a protest at Lougheed Highway and North Road, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Climate Convergence will have large banners and information for passersby at the busy intersection to draw people’s attention to the TMX project.

This follows protests on North Road just south of Highway 1 as people blocked the path of heavy machinery being brought in as Trans Mountain clears a path that will include the cutting down of more than 1,300 trees along the Brunette River.

Trans Mountain recently erected blue fencing around several trees that are being occupied by people against the project.

“During this federal election campaign and beyond we say enough is enough,” said Climate Convergence organizer Alison Bodine, in a statement. “More and more people in Canada are tired of the rhetoric and the hypocrisy of the federal government when it comes to empty promises about the environment and Indigenous rights. We will continue to organize and mobilize until the TMX pipeline is defeated once and for all.”
