New high-friction road surfaces are in now place at 10 locations around the Lower Mainland, including two high-crash spots in North Vancouver, the province has announced.
On the North Shore, the road treatment was applied to the westbound Capilano off-ramp to Highway 1 and to both the eastbound and westbound Lonsdale off-ramps to Highway 1.
The special aggregate and resin treatment toughens the road surface to prevent skidding and helps vehicles come to a complete stop, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. It is expected to last seven years.
Off-ramps and intersections were selected after being identified as high-collision locations.
Total cost of the project, which began last year and included 14 locations in Metro Vancouver and on Vancouver Island, is $3.9 million.
