Alice Yeasting was born in Vancouver in the 1920s, one of nine children born to Kim Yook and Stephen Fee Yeasting.
In the early 1940s she worked as a clerk at Toronto Grocery and studied commerce at UBC. Here, she is pictured in 1945 alongside her co-workers (she is front row, on the right) at the Burrard Drydock where she worked as a passer – the member of the riveting team who passed the red-hot rivets off to be driven into place.
Following the war, Alice married her UBC classmate Peter Chong and the pair moved to Lytton, Peter’s hometown.
