Police are looking for a haul of guns that was stolen from a North Vancouver gunsmith in a burglary Wednesday.

Thieves broke into the victim's home workshop in the 300-block of East 22nd Street some time between 10 a.m. and 2: 30 p.m. and lifted 19 firearms from a locked locker, according to investigators.

The long-barrelled guns, which ranged from .22-calibre to 7-millimetre, were all legally stored and registered with the Canadian Firearms Registry, they said. No ammo was taken, as it had been stowed in a separate area, in accordance with regulations.

"The police are always extremely concerned when firearms are stolen and put into the hands of the criminal element," said Cpl. Richard De Jong, a spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP, in a release. "(We're) requesting the assistance of the public to report any information that may lead to (their) recovery."

A forensic identification unit has examined the scene. The police are continuing to investigate, said De Jong.

Anyone with information is asked to call the North Vancouver detachment at 604-985-1311.
