GRADE 7 West Bay elementary student Qayam Devji was so inspired after attending TEDxKids@ BC last October, he decided to bring a similar event to his community.

On Friday, May 17, Devji and his classmates, with the support of parents, teachers and the West Vancouver School District, will host the first TEDxKids@Ambleside event at the Kay Meek Centre.

TED is a non-profit devoted to spreading ideas. It started in 1984 as a conference to bring people together from three worlds: technology, entertainment and design. Events take place all over the world and are organized by volunteers and community leaders. Vancouver was recently selected to host the 2014 TEDTalks conference.

TEDxKids@Ambleside is open to students in Grade 4 and up. The independently organized event will bring students together to explore the theme of curiosity and wonder.

Speakers will be selected from applications and can include presentations, performances or any expression that explores curiosity and wonder. Students must apply to speak by April 9. TEDxKids@Ambleside will accommodate 100 attendees, who must apply to attend the event. For more information, contact [email protected].
