TaxiSaver forum comes to NV

A public forum to discuss the possible end of TransLink's TaxiSaver program will be held in North Vancouver next week.

A public forum to discuss the possible end of TransLink's TaxiSaver program will be held in North Vancouver next week.

The event will allow North Shore residents to have their say on the transit authority's controversial proposal to scrap the program in favour of putting $1.1 million into its HandyDart service.

TaxiSaver is a program that allows seniors and people with disabilities to purchase taxi coupons for a 50 per cent discount. Residents use the service for same-day and spontaneous trips when other TransLink service isn't available. HandyDart buses, in contrast, must be booked from one to seven days in advance.

The North Shore forum, sponsored by the North Shore Disability Resource Centre and the Lionsview Seniors' Planning Society, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the North Vancouver City Library.
