A man accused of breaking into a North Vancouver womans home in the middle of the night and forcing her to hand over bank cards has been arrested in Ontario, according to police.
John Boyd Creasey, 36, was taken into custody in Chatham, Ont., Monday, following a Canada-wide manhunt. Police say he will be returned to North Vancouver to face charges.
Investigators allege Creasey broke into a Delbrook Avenue home at about 4 a.m. Aug. 3 and threatened the lone occupant, a woman in her 60s, demanding that she give him debit cards, credit cards and her PIN numbers. He reportedly held her against her will until she complied, and threatened to kill her if she called police.
The cards were later used to withdraw funds.
Police issued a Canada-wide warrant for Creaseys arrest in early September. They announced his capture Tuesday.
The woman was not physically harmed, but she was certainly traumatized by the incident, said Cpl. Richard De Jong, a spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP.
Having this alleged violent offender off the street will help all of us feel safer, he added, in a release.
Creasey, who is known to police, has been charged with break and enter, forcible confinement, assault and uttering threats.
Investigators have not said whether he knew the alleged victim.
