The seas may be high but you better not be.

That’s the message B.C. Ferries has for any passengers planning to take drugs or swill booze while aboard one of their vessels this summer.

Any passenger who appears impaired while heading to the terminal will be reported to police, according to a recent release from the ferry service. The release is intended to remind drivers that the rules of the road continue to apply on the water.

“Drivers should realize that a ferry crossing is not a good excuse to either drink alcohol or consume drugs, then get into their vehicles to drive. But if they make a poor choice, police will be on the other side to greet them,” stated RCMP spokesman Const. Melissa Wutke in the release.

Police responded to 127 incidents of passengers who were suspected to be under the influence of alcohol in the last fiscal year, according to B.C. Ferries.
