Here are the police briefs released to the media by the Squamish RCMP for the week Nov. 22 to 28, 2022.
Buy-and-sell fraud
Police are accusing a poster on an online social media buy-and-sell page of fraud.
Officers say they received two reports involving posts on Nov. 28.
A woman posted several items for sale and then asked for payment via e-transfer before giving the purchasers their items.
The potential customers checked her address, which was false, and held off on making any payments.
Police want others to be aware of this scam, especially as the holiday season approaches and people search for gifts.
Theft from car
Police say thieves broke into a car on Nov. 27 in a parking lot in the 40900-block of Tantalus Road.
Officers say the suspects smashed the rear passenger window. They stole a hunting bow, some hunting gear, and $40 in cash.
Police remind people in the area about the rash of thefts from autos from this area, and to always secure vehicles and remove valuables.
Impaired driving
RCMP say they issued two alcohol-related prohibitions over the past week.
In the first case, an officer on patrol on Squamish Valley Road spotted a new driver without licence plates. That driver failed a breathalyzer test, and police issued a 90-day ban. The car was impounded for 30 days.
In the second, separate case, an officer saw a driver disobeying stop and speed signs. The officer stopped the driver and smelled liquor. A breathalyzer test gave a warning result.
RCMP issued a three-day prohibition and impounded the car for three days.
Police say a third, separate case is still under investigation.
A car crash occurred on Government Road near Judd Road.
The driver needed hospital treatment in the Lower Mainland.
RCMP say investigators suspect alcohol may have been involved, based on evidence at the scene.
Winter tire checks
Police have checked almost 1,000 cars in the Squamish area for winter tires.
Members found nine cars had summer tires.
Officers say Sea to Sky locals generally used winter tires, and those using summer tires were from outside the area.
