The Squamish Nation has received confirmation that one additional member has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the Nation to 26.
During a Thursday evening update, Nation Coun. Syeta'xtn (Chris Lewis) announced the new pandemic numbers in a Facebook Live video.
It has been a week since the Nation’s first case was confirmed, he said.
“Over this last week, we have seen our community come together in incredible ways to show support for one another,” said Syeta'xtn.
Contact tracing is underway and health officials are reaching out to those affected, he said.
He urged people to keep their social bubbles small and maintain physical distancing with people outside of their bubble.
“For members who are self-isolating, please reach out to the Nation. Please reach out to member services staff, who are working tirelessly day and night to provide support to those in need at this time,” said Syeta'xtn.
“If there’s anything we can do during this difficult time, please reach out. Please reach out to us. You are not alone.”
The Nation is offering support to members both on and off-reserve, he said.
Members who need help can contact 604-982-7610 during business hours. For after-hours support, call 604-505-3776.
“Let us all continue our part to protect our elders, our children, and those who may be at high risk,” he said.
