A New Westminster man who tried to speed away from West Vancouver police Friday in a stolen car had an abrupt end to his joyride after crashing into a rock wall and flipping the car on its roof.

The driver came to the attention of police around 1 p.m. after he blew past the Westmount exit on Highway 1 doing about 120 kilometres an hour in a 90 km/h zone.

Officers checked the licence plate and discovered the 1999 Honda Civic had been reported stolen Feb. 15.

When the driver turned off the highway at Eagleridge Drive, police in the area closed in.

A few minutes later, the driver took a curve in the 4900-block of Marine Drive at high speed and lost control.

The car crashed into a rock face at the side of the road, and flipped.

As police arrived, the driver crawled out of the car and tried to run away. He was arrested shortly after.

Adam John Paul Sicotte, 31, has been charged with dangerous driving, flight from a police officer, possession of stolen property, operating a motor vehicle while

disqualified and failing to comply with bail conditions.
