The elementary school is one of 10 schools in the running to receive a $20,000 outdoor classroom grant through a contest sponsored by Majesta.

Nearly filled to capacity, the outdoor classroom would alleviate congestion at Seymour while serving as a community hub on evenings and weekends. Featuring a covered roof and nestled among planters, the outdoor classroom could be used on rainy and sunny days.

Online balloting is open online at majestatreesofknowledge.ca and is scheduled to close on April 26.

Prizes ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 are earmarked for second, third, and fourth place finishers, as well as the school with the most creative idea.

The Trees of Knowledge competition, now in its third year, is intended to help students deepen their understanding of nature and environmental sustainability. The 10 schools were selected from submissions across Canada.
