If you see smoke and hear alarms coming from Seaspan’s shipyards at the foot of Pemberton Avenue in North Vancouver Thursday, it’s probably not the real thing.

The shipyards are conducted a controlled burn, just before noon, to test their in-house fire brigade’s skills, the company is warning.

Seaspan is seeking to get its crews aligned with the National Fire Protection Association’s professional standards.

The exercise has the blessing of District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services. The burn won’t be happening near any ships and it should be small enough that passersby won’t notice it.
