North Shore Rescue was called out to search for two men caught in an avalanche Monday mid-day near Runner Peak, north of the Mt. Seymour ski area.

One man was rescued, while the status of the other hiker remains unknown.

"This is an ongoing operation, but is stood down for the evening due to high avalanche danger in the area," stated North Shore Rescue in a Facebook post around 8 p.m.

"Thank you to the various personnel and organizations who assisted today from Mt. Seymour, Talon Helicopters, Blackcomb Helicopters, Whistler Blackcomb Avi Techs, Grouse Mountain, CARDA, Metro Parks, Metro Van, BC Parks, EMBC, and RECCO."
