Conservative volunteers put up a re-election sign for former Sea to Sky MP John Weston.

Sea to Sky residents are invited to attend an online town hall debate featuring candidates for the Conservative Party of Canada leadership race on Sunday, July 24 at 5 p.m.

The West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country electoral district association is organizing the event, which will feature three of the five candidates vying for office: Scott Aitchison, Roman Baber, and Jean Charest.

"For the good of democracy, for the debate of key issues, and for the driving of participation, the party needs more debates,” said former Sea to Sky MP John Weston, in a release.

Weston will moderate the event. At the time of publication, Leslyn Lewis and Pierre Poilievre had not yet agreed to participate.

Poilievre also declined to participate in the Conservative Party's third official debate and, as such, will pay a $50,000 fine as all official debates are mandatory for candidates. Lewis has yet to make a decision either way.

The panellists will focus on Conservative Party members who can vote, but the virtual nature of the July 24 town hall gives all Canadians the chance to hear diverse views about leading issues of the time.

Policy questions will cover inter-provincial relations; the environment; health-care; fiscal responsibility; China/Taiwan policy; and First Nations reconciliation and equality issues.

Aside from the policy discussion, organizers hope viewers will also take away a greater familiarity with those seeking to serve as Canada’s next Conservative leader.

The event will be hosted on Zoom; you can find a link here.
