Police in North Vancouver are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man they suspect stole a charity donation box with money that was supposed to help the families of seriously ill children.

According to North Vancouver RCMP, the man walked up to the counter of a 24-hour McDonald’s restaurant at Westview Shopping Centre around 3 a.m. Sunday morning and stole the Ronald McDonald House donation box by putting it in his backpack.

Just prior to that, police said, the suspect bought food with a stolen credit card, which had been in a wallet taken from a vehicle a few hours before.

Images of the alleged thief were caught on the restaurant’s surveillance video.

The suspect is described as a white man, between 30 and 35, about six feet tall, with a medium build, brown beard and short hair. He was wearing glasses and a black baseball cap.

Police are asking anyone who can identify the culprit on store surveillance to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311; quoting file number 2014-9427 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Ronald McDonald House is a charity that provides help to families whose children are undergoing treatment at BC Children’s Hospital. The charity helps about 400 families each year.
