Power restored after outages affect more than 1,400 customers on the North Shore

BC Hydro has restored power to the remaining 500 customers who were impacted by an outage this morning( May 18) which affected more than 1,400 on the North Shore.

The outage impacted homes across the Cedardale neighbourhood of West Vancouver, near the Lions Gate Bridge, as well as Squamish Nation’s Capilano Reserve No. 5 and the Norgate area of North Vancouver, according to a graphic tweeted out by BC Hydro this morning.

Specifically, power wasout north of Stanley Park Drive, south of Inglewood Avenue, east of 11th Street, and west of Tatlow Avenue.

Crews arrived at the scene by 7:55 a.m. this morning, at which point more than 1,400 customers were without power. The outage was caused due to a tree that fell on some electrical wires, according to an update from BC Hydro.

A pair of smaller outages, included one caused by a transformer burning out, have been reported in the Capilano Highlands neighbourhood as well.

Late last night (May 17), many around the Lower Mainland were awoken by crackling thunder and dramatic lightning.

Environment Canada has predicted more thunderstorms could be on their way today.
