West Vancouver police are continuing to investigate after a mansion in the British Properties was sprayed with bullets early Sunday morning.
Multiple shots were fired at a home at 2639 Finch Hill near Chippendale Road at 3:30 a.m.
The gunman fled before police arrived. Most of the bullets sprayed the upper floor of the house, facing the street. No one was reported injured, despite a party that had been taking place in the home earlier in the evening.
“There was damage to the walls, damage to the windows,” said Const. Jeff Palmer, spokesman for West Vancouver police. Bullets also struck a water pipe, causing water damage inside the home.
Police identification and forensics experts are working to determine what type of gun was used in the shooting and where the shooter was likely positioned. “Clearly it was a weapon capable of firing multiple rounds in fairly short order,” said Palmer.
Investigators are also still working to piece together who was in the home at the time of the shooting, which might lead to a motive and help identify possible suspects, said Palmer.
Police are also canvassing nearby properties for potential video surveillance footage from around the time of the shooting.
Palmer said police received multiple emergency calls about the shooting. When officers arrived at the house, a number of people were outside on the street. Palmer said it wasn’t immediately clear which of those people may have been at a party earlier in the evening and whether anyone had left the scene.
“At this point we don’t have any witnesses who are able to provide any suspect or vehicle description,” said Palmer. “Whether they’re telling us that because it’s a true statement or they’re telling us that for any other reason, it’s not possible for us to know that.” Most of those gathered outside the house appeared to be young adults, said Palmer.
The owner of the home was not present at the time of the shooting, said Palmer. B.C. Assessment names Zhechen Cao, with an address listed as a property management company in Richmond, as owner of the 5,700-square-foot home, worth $6.3 million.
Palmer urged anyone with information to contact police, adding tipsters can give information anonymously. “This is of significant concern,” he said. “We’re working every angle we can.”
