A police incident on the Lions Gate Bridge snarled traffic for thousands of North Shore commuters Thursday morning.

Vancouver police reduced traffic flow on the bridge to one lane in either direction around 6:15 a.m, leading to vehicles stopped bumper-to-bumper as far back as 20th Street on Marine Drive in West Vancouver, as far north as the Capilano Suspension Bridge on Capilano Road and east to Keith Road.

Huge tie-ups on Highway1in both directions added an hour to many commutes, according to traffic reports and social media. The incident was over by 9:30 a.m. but traffic remained heavy throughout the morning.

The incident ended in a person jumping from the bridge.
