Police forewarn North Shore distracted driving campaign

“Did you see the sign?” That’s the question local law enforcement will be asking drivers who get pulled over for distracted driving on the North Shore March 6.

“Did you see the sign?”

That’s the question local law enforcement will be asking drivers who get pulled over for distracted driving on the North Shore March 6.

A distracted driving enforcement campaign is being held Tuesday at the intersections of Capilano Road and Marine Drive in North Vancouver and along Taylor Way and Marine in West Vancouver.

Several large electronic messaging boards baring the notice “Police ahead – stay off your phone!” will be in full view to passing motorists, states a release from the North Vancouver RCMP.

“During the afternoon commute drivers will be forewarned of police enforcement ahead of them,” states North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Cpl. Richard De Jong in the release.

“We are giving out this very public warning in the hopes our officers will not catch any violators that day – that may be wishful thinking.”

Participating agencies will include the North Vancouver RCMP, West Vancouver Police Department, Lower Mainland District Traffic Services, LMD Integrated Road Safety Unit, and community policing volunteers.
