A woman has died after a being hit by a vehicle in Ambleside Wednesday night.
The West Vancouver Police Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls just after 6: 30 p.m., reporting a woman being hit by a westbound vehicle on the 1400-block of Marine Drive.
Emergency crews rushed the 62-year-old Coquitlam woman to Lions Gate Hospital but she later succumbed to her injures. Police have not released the identity of the victim.
WVPD has called in the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analyses and Reconstruction Service to assist in the investigation, but are not looking to lay any charges against the driver.
"From the witness statements we've taken so far, the vehicle was travelling under the speed limit. It was dark clothing and crossing suddenly at a point away from the crosswalk (that contributed to the accident)," said Const. Jeff Palmer, WVPD spokesman. Investigators are asking any witnesses that have not yet spoken with police to contact WVPD at 604-925-7300. Palmer issued a reminder that pedestrians should only cross streets at marked crosswalks and to wear clothing that will not make them hard to see.
