A little over two decades ago I worked as a server at Bobby's Lounge, the precursor to the gorgeous new Olympic lodge that now graces Cypress Mountain.

With Tommy Swain at its helm, Bobby's Lounge, which was located behind heavy wooden doors, to the right of the cafeteria, was a hopping mountain establishment.

Lunch hour and late-night après ski found me balancing jugs of beer, burgers and fries, to satiate the fresh air appetites of ruddy-faced skiers and boarders.

That year was the Genesis of snowboarding on the North Shore mountains.

Chromophobia, a Vancouver company, came out with its first line of snowboarding gear and the term "boarder" was still used in domestic reference.

Partway through that season a man who went by the name of Frankie or Freddy, (I sadly don't recall) started frequenting Bobby's Lounge.
